GREVISION / TECHNOLOGY DECISIONS

Next.js or WordPress for your next website?

Start with the people who will run the website. A marketing team publishing approved pages has different needs from a product team delivering a portal with accounts and connected business workflows. We review those responsibilities before recommending Next.js, WordPress or a combination of the two. Neither choice alone guarantees search rankings or a particular performance score.

The linked documentation describes platform capabilities. The planning questions and recommendations below are Grevision's guidance for discussing your project.

Choose around your publishing workflow

Bring two representative pages and show us how your team would update them. Discuss previewing, approvals, reusable content, images and translations. For a site that mainly publishes business information, a carefully scoped WordPress setup can be a useful option. For a React application with content and connected workflows, evaluate how Next.js fits the product. The practical choice depends on what editors can manage and what remains a development task.

Test the integration that matters most

If the website needs a product catalogue, booking service or signed-in portal, identify the system that owns that data. Agree authentication, error handling and what visitors should see when a service is unavailable. A headless WordPress and Next.js combination is also possible; it introduces a frontend and a CMS that need coordinated publishing and operation. We would include that responsibility in the proposal rather than assume an extra layer is automatically useful.

Measure your implementation

Use representative content, real page types and the hosting setup you intend to operate. Check mobile navigation, forms, accessibility and loading behaviour. Existing-site migrations also need a content inventory and URL redirect plan. Compare what will be built and tested; a framework label is not a substitute for an agreed acceptance process.

Inspect a relevant project

The RA Plâtrerie Peinture portfolio shows a Next.js implementation with French, German and Italian content. Its project page distinguishes the portfolio implementation from the public company website. It is an example to inspect, not a performance comparison with WordPress.

Compare the work included in each proposal

A platform name does not define a complete offer. Compare the same user journeys, content, language versions, integrations and acceptance conditions. Identify the work your team will supply, including approved text, assets, test data and access to existing systems. A useful proposal separates the first release from later improvements and makes open questions visible.

Agree how the product will be operated

Before development, agree who owns the hosting accounts, release decisions and maintenance requests. Clarify repository access, deployment, documentation and the handover expected by your team. Third-party services, licenses, subscriptions and ongoing support need their own responsibilities and scope. Pricing is negotiable for each project after we review the requirements; this comparison is not a quotation or a savings forecast.
